Cisco Systems Rolls out Two New Courses on Network Security and Wireless LAN

A Cisco regional academy will have to invest at least R750,000 for the new Cisco curricular offerings fundamentals in network security and wireless LANs (local area network).

There are 139 Cisco regional academies in the Philippines currently offering Cisco Certified Networking Associates (CCNA) courses under the Cisco Networking Academy Program (CNAP).

The new courses would be rolled out by De La Salle University, the designated Cisco Academy Training Center (CATC) in the Philippines.

Jocelyn Wong, Cisco Networking Academy program manager of De La Salle University said that each Cisco regional academy would spend 550,00 for the network security and R200,000 for the wireless LANs that include laboratory facilities and Cisco equipment.

Cisco operates on a cost recovery model for the regional Cisco academies where each school is expected to recover the investment in a year or two.

De La Salle University will incorporate the two new courses in the undergraduate level beginning this year. The university is targeting 16 students as the initial batch for the new courses with 50 students per year.

The courses combine hands-on experience, instructor-led lectures and Web-based curricular for students.

Wong said networking technology is evolving all the time, leading to the development of converged, wireless devices and complex corporate networks that are highly vulnerable to security threats.

"This has created unprecedented career opportunities for graduates equipped with the basic skills to architect, implement and operate wireless networks and security solutions
